Betty Turner


Betty Turner is currently the organist at the First Presbyterian Church, Forest City, NC, and has recently retired from teaching 7th grade language arts at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy for the last 14 years. Previously, Mrs. Turner was a full-time music instructor at Isothermal Community College, where she directed The College Singers and the show choir, The IsoTones. During her more than 25 years at Isothermal, she taught Class Piano, Class Voice, Private Piano and Voice, Music Appreciation, Opera Workshop, and Music History, as well as chorus and show choir. During the summer sessions, she taught Freshman Composition, as well as business English and vocational English courses.

Mrs. Turner has served previously as Organist/Choir Director at Tryon First Baptist Church, Supply Organist at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Pianist/Organist at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton, NC, Choir Director at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church and Smith Grove Baptist Church, Forest City, NC.

Mrs. Turner holds a BA Degree in English with a minor in Music from Columbia College, Columbia, SC, the MAT Degree in English from Duke University, and the MMUS ED Degree in music from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC. She has done additional course study in music at Converse College, Spartanburg, SC.
