Larry Hinds has more than 55 years professional experience in music. Growing up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Larry was exposed to music as a young child and demonstrated an early eagerness to learn. Larry’s mother, Doris, was a Registered Nurse and an accomplished pianist. Harold, Larry’s father, loved musicals and the classics. Together they provided a musical home, as well as being incredibly nurturing about Larry’s growing musical passions. As early as 12 years old, Larry was playing bass regularly in local rock bands, often with members 2-5 years his senior. Simultaneously Larry played string bass in the Lincoln Junior High School Orchestra and studied classical piano with Marjorie McNeil. Fascinated by all things technical, Larry began experimenting with tape machines, mics and mixers, looking to unlock the mysteries of recording. This would soon provide him with an interesting career.

Armed with these tools, Larry arrived in Southern California in 1977 and quickly found himself on the other side of the glass as a recording engineer. He worked with Michael Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Chris Squire (Yes), Jonathan Cain (Journey), Bruce Hornsby and Peter Frampton to name a few, as well as engineering a Grammy-nominated Robin Williams comedy album. Throughout this time, Larry always kept playing guitar and keyboards.

Larry currently still finds himself on both sides of the glass, whether recording and mixing music as a producer/engineer in his home studio or playing live shows as a solo guitarist/singer at local wineries and similar venues. He also performs in the guitar duo Contigo with Wild Roots guitar instructor, Amy Brucksch. He is looking forward to joining the Wild Roots roster as a guitar, bass and improvisation teacher, specializing in rock and acoustic genres.
